My Swim Coach
The 'Lane One' training concept is rooted in the 'legendary lane 1' of the aquatics high performance center, based at the German Sport University Cologne. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the center has hosted a successful swim training group which has supported many triathletes to become sub-50 swimmers.
Dr. Dirk Steinbach co-developed the swim training of this group over the course of several years and created the "Lane One" concept out of it. Dirk is a sport scientist who participated in the Ironman Hawaii multiple times.
The 'Lane One' concept brings together current knowledge of training theory with practical experience from successful top athletes like Henning Wackerhage, Silvia Vaupel or Andrea Brede.
All training plans are available for free.

In water, you're the boss! You love to swim in pole position and you always want to win the final sprint. Orca is your training plan.
100m freestyle test;
1:00min - 1:10min
Only very few swim as fast as you do, and you feel good in the leading pack. What you need is one more kick to get to the podium. Our plan for you is Marlin.
100m freestyle test;
1:10min - 1:20min
You love water and in competition you are right in the centre of the pack. With our training plan Dolphin, you'll soon swim out of the crowd.
100m freestyle test;
1:20min - 1:35min
In water nothing can get to you; and in competition you like to control the race from the back of the main group. If you like to gain more speed, train with Turtle.

1:30min - 1:45min
Let´s face it. You're not a swim god. This will change with our training plan Titanic. Maybe then you'll even make the Blue Ribbon.

You cannot swim Butterfly, you're looking for the Ildefonso, or some of the training plan's time targets are (yet!) too fast? No problem!

If you don't know how fast you are at the moment or if you would like to track your training success, download one of our training protocols. The My Swim Coach Basic Test (1) calculates 2 reference times; the My Swim Coach Professional Test (2) determines a full spectrum of 8 reference times.
We propose to swim one of the tests every 6 to 8 weeks, to track your training progress. This will allow you to find out when it's time to change to another Lane One training plan. In the new training plan, just start in the same training week as you would in your previous plan.
